GweGwe Beach Lodge
If your vision of heaven includes unspoiled landscapes, beautiful coastlines, and a symphony of natural wonders, pack your bags and head to GweGwe Beach Lodge in the Mkambati Nature Reserve. A hidden jewel in South Africa's Wild Coast, where luxury and adventure reign supreme. There aren't many spots in the world where you can see wildlife on land and dolphins (or whales) offshore.
The Wild Coast is a wild and untouched section of shoreline on the Indian Ocean. Its natural splendour appeals to those seeking a more pristine and secluded setting. For decades, tourists to Mkambati have stayed in primitive rondavels at GweGwe. This stunning property has now been renovated into a luxury beach lodge, which opened at the end of March 2024. It is designed to fit into the landscape and provides laid-back luxury with regionally inspired design. The accommodations feature 9 en-suite rooms (7 twin deluxe suites and 2 family suites). Each has a double vanity, bathtub, indoor and outdoor showers, fireplace, sitting room, little garden, private deck, and a 6m-long pool with stunning ocean views.
- Opened March 2024
- Luxury accommodation
- Breath-taking views
- The ultimate beach and safari experience in one.
Calling all adventurers! Set within the 7,500-hectare Mkambati Nature Reserve, the lodge's own concession is a protected region recognised for its diverse ecosystems, including coastal woods, grasslands, and riverine habitats, with numerous unique pockets to discover. There will be plenty of plains wildlife and birdlife, so grab your binoculars and get ready for bush adventure mixed with beach activity. Mkambathi is ideal for children and couples, as well as anyone looking for an unspoiled beachfront resort and an opportunity to explore the Wild Coast away from the crowds. The reserve is noted for its biodiversity, which includes a variety of plant and animal species. Guests can enjoy plains game and excellent bird watching. A substantial amount of Mkambati Nature Reserve is covered in grasslands, which support an interesting and diverse flora. Zebra, eland, red hartebeest, blesbuck, reedbuck, and kudu roam the plains.
