Nehimba Lodge is located in a private concession in Hwange National Park and is frequented by elephants, which arrive to drink from either the pan in front of camp or from the plunge pool. Four to five hours drive from Victoria Falls through the park.
Nehimba Lodge Highlights
One of the best parts of life at Nehimba Lodge is the presence of elephants, which are attracted to the water located in front of the lodge, and are also known to turn the guest plunge pool into a mud bath at times! This classic Zimbabwean safari lodge has nine thatched bedrooms, which flank the main living and dining area of the lodge, each looking onto the busy waterhole. Any of Hwange’s array of wild animals are invited to come right into the lodge grounds, as it is unfenced, so there is a high chance of spotting some exciting species from the deck while enjoying breakfast, or listening to the elephants drink in the dark at dinner time.
- There are nine guest rooms, which wooden chalets with thatched roofs, outside showers surrounded by canvas and open to the heavens. Of these, two are family suites, and two are honeymoon suites.
- Each room has a private balcony with outdoor furniture, and en suite bathrooms complete with bath tubs.
- Nehimba is a seasonal camp, which closes from December to March each year. Dry season is best with a huge number of elephants visiting the camp grounds.
- The main area of the lodge has WiFi connectivity for easy communication and a plunge pool which is ideal during the hot months of the year.
Nehimba Lodge Game Viewing and Activities
When wildlife is not coming to the camp itself, you can always go exploring on a game drive or guided walking safari! The abundance of elephants that visit during the dry season are attracted to the pan in front of the lodge, and even to the swimming pool itself, which brings them within an arm’s reach of the deck. The incredible game viewing at Nehimba doesn’t end there. There are daily game drives traversing this game-rich area of northern Hwange, where the mopane woodland meets the Kalahari sands. Sable antelope, lion, wild dog, and of course the elephants which are famously hunted by lions during the dry season some of the wildlife highlights to be seen. Night drives are also a special experience, taking place on the private concession, and walking safaris bring the wild outdoors into detail and can involve some adrenalin pumping wildlife encounters on foot!
