This is an intimate lodge accommodating only 12 people at a time in four luxury doubles and one family unit sleeping four people. Comfortable yet stylish decor and furnishings keep the emphasis on the outdoors, linking the sights, sounds, and smells of the wilderness to each area of the lodge. Chikunto opened in April 2018 and is a superb addition to South Luangwa.

Spotted hyenas call into the night, competing with the lions for the title of “best safari audio”. Hippos jostle in the river in front of camp, and elephants and buffalo are always on the move for water. South Luangwa is also the birthplace of walking safaris and is a spectacular place to explore on foot. Chikunto offers guided, interpretive walks in the area surrounding the camp, or there is an option to drive out to somewhere remote before disembarking the vehicle and starting a safari on foot.
