Marataba Explorers Camp
An easy-going and laid back tented camp in the Waterberg, Limpopo, aimed at creating adventure and unforgettable, hands-on experiences in support of conservation.
The camp consists of five canvas tented suites plus one family tent on elevated wooden decks with swimming pool. Set in shady, fenced grounds the camp allows guests to immerse themselves in the conservation activities on offer and embrace the laid-back, outdoor lifestyle of Marataba.

Both Explorers Camp and Founders Camp focus on tourism activities that support the conservation projects underway in the Marataba Contractual Park. The conservation levy guests pay includes most of the hands-on participatory experiences offered, while others – like the three-day rhino notching safari is to be arranged separately and planned in advance. Some amazing opportunities are on offer to track cheetahs using radio telemetry, monitor and identify individual elephants for research and data capture purposes, and support the field ranger work by scanning for and removing poacher’s snares.
Not only are guests able to make a difference through these experiences, but they get to explore one of South Africa’s most superb landscapes. Nature hikes, guided walking safaris, picnics, boat cruises, game drives, swimming in wild mountain pools are some of the ways guests can enjoy their time at Marataba.
