This 5 night canoeing safari takes guests down the beautiful Lugenda River of Mozambique. For starters, guests spend a night at the exclusive Pemba Beach Hotel and Spa where they will be inclined to relax at this beautiful part of Mozambique. It sits on the cusp of the bay just outside of Pemba, introducing the Quirimbas Archipelago off the northern coast of Mozambique. Early in the morning, guests take a light air transfer to the Lugenda Wilderness Reserve in Niassa. A journey into the middle of the Niassa Reserve sets the adventure in motion, as guests spend their first night at Ndapata mobile tented campsite before an early morning cruise down the Lugenda River. For the next two days and nights, guests get to absorb the sights and sounds of the Lugenda Wilderness area from the unique perspective of a canoe. Riverbank campsites are made up temporarily for the two nights spent on the river before reaching the luxury of Lugenda Wilderness Camp where guests will spend their last night before departing to Pemba Airport in time for their onward arrangements.

To start off this river adventure, guests arrive at Pemba airport in Mozambique from where they take a road transfer to Pemba Beach Hotel and Spa. The beautiful Pemba Beach Hotel and Spa is situated on the coastline of Pemba Bay, one of the world's largest deep water bays. It is the gateway to the exotic Quirimbas Archipelago off the northern coast of Mozambique and offers adventurous activities that explore the clear waters of the bay and the plethora of fish and reefs below the surface. The luxury hotel is equipped with an infinity pool, a bar and a restaurant where guests can enjoy delicious cuisine. Additionally, guests might be inclined to book a massage or alternative beauty treatment, to enjoy this luxury accommodation before embarking on the canoeing safari that lies ahead.
An early 7am start at Pemba Beach Hotel takes guests to the airport, from where they will fly via light air transfer to Lugenda Wilderness Camp. The adventure to the heart of the Niassa Reserve starts with an afternoon road transfer to Ndapata Camp to overnight in one of the Mobile Camping sites. The Canoeing Safari is an adventure to experience the Niassa Reserve at its best. Guests traverse down the river in Canadian-style canoes to the Hippo Pools, and enjoy a gorgeous African sunset with sundowners and snacks for two wonderful nights before experiencing a night drive through the Reserve back to Lugenda Wilderness Camp.
Third morning: Depart early in the morning from Ndapata mobile camp to start the canoeing safari down the Lugenda River. The visually stunning trip down the river will break for a bush breakfast and later on, a lunch on the riverbank, which provides time for guests to rest their bodies and enjoy the peacefulness of the surrounds.
Fouth morning: The same as the day before, guests will stop at intervals for breakfast and lunch, while also experiencing animal, bird and interesting flora sightings. Wildlife highlights include the African Skimmer, Taita Falcons, buffalos, antelopes, hippos and more. Guests will continue in the canoes until reaching the second riverside campsite where they will spend the second night on the river.
Fifth morning: The last morning start on the riverbank takes guests down the last stretch of the Lugenda River, breaking for meals and game viewing before continuing down the river until Lugenda Camp Wilderness Camp is reached.
After three superb nights spent at mobile campsites at various points along the Lugenda River, guests arrive at Lugenda Wilderness Camp, situated in the Lugenda Wildlife Reserve, in the Niassa province. Rated by many as one of the most exclusive safari destinations in Africa, the reserve offers 42 000 square kilometres of untouched pristine wilderness. At Lugenda Wilderness Camp, guests are offered a private and exclusive safari experience combined with delectable cuisine and magnificent game viewing opportunities. It is small and intimate with only 8 luxury East-African style tents, located approximately 40m from the Lugenda River.
The reserve provides refuge for over 200 endangered African wild dogs and is home to at least 3 endemic species, including Niassa Wildebeest, Boehms Zebra and Johnston's Impala. Guests can also expect to see elephant, buffalo, hartebeest, eland and zebra, as well as, hippo, lion, leopard, warthog and spotted hyena. The area is a birder's paradise with over 370 species already identified, in amongst those is an abundance of raptors.
After a refreshing night of luxury at Lugenda Wilderness Camp, guests depart after an early breakfast and take a light air transfer to Pemba Airaort in time for onward travel arrangements.
