I have learned that everything in Africa bites – but the safari bug is worst of all! Fresh air. Golden sunsets. Remoteness. Sun. Tracks. Close encounters...it is very difficult to find words to describe Africa & the memories she adds to your life. I guess it is because Africa is not a destination, but an experience.
Time stands still. It feels as if you have been in the bush forever. There is nothing quite like waking up to the sounds of the wild & knowing that they are out there... somewhere. Finding them is like finding Wally! Lions drinking, elephants splashing, wild dogs playing... The bush is a stage & the animals its artists. They do what they please & they eat when (& what) they want.
We also eat, we explore, we read, we relax, we swim, we dream, we nap. We eat again, we encounter, we eat again. The day feels almost complete. At night we sit around the camp fire, talking about our day in the African bush... Life is tough – but as I always say: Someone has to do it!
Each time I go the bush, I convince myself that "this time, the wildlife viewing was the best!" I love spending time at sightings where the animals are so close to the vehicle, you can hear them breath! I especially adore spending time with cats & elephant herds, & absolutely love seeing predators hunting or eating. But my all-time favorite destinations in Africa are the Okavango Delta, Linyanti, Timbavati & Sabi Sand. If you want action, this is where you’ll find it!
