This is prime desert-adapted elephant country and clear nights offer plenty opportunity for magnificent stargazing. Doro Nawas Camp offers guests a unique and charming visit where you can wheel your bed onto your veranda and sleep under the dazzling desert stars.
Doro Nawas Camp consists of 16 natural walled units. Each unit consists of a bedroom, en-suite bathroom with outdoor shower and a veranda for stargazing or sleep outs. The main building is perched on the top of a small hill providing magnificent views of this diverse and dramatic landscape, which varies from tabletop outcrops, small canyons, and dry riverbeds to savannah and grassland vistas. The main area is made up of indoor and outdoor rooftop dining areas, a residential pool area, bar, curio shop and small gallery. A staircase to the roof allows for relaxing sundowners and stargazing.
The camp provides an excellent base for exploring the local area in game drive vehicles and on foot, taking in the spectacular views and desert scenery. There are no large concentrations of wildlife here, but this arid environment is home to, gemsbok, springbok and variety of other species, including occasional glimpses of the endangered black rhino. Guided trips to the Haub riverbed to find the Desert Adapted Elephant can be organised through the Lodge. Birdlife is excellent with several Namibian endemics such as Monteiro's Hornbill and Rüpell's Korhaan.
A highlight here is the fascinating expedition to Twyfelfontein, Namibia's first World Heritage Site, with its renowned San art engravings, and the largest collection of petroglyphs - prehistoric rock art in Africa as well as geological formations such as the Petrified Forest, Burnt Mountain and Organ Pipes. Wildlife viewing concentrates on the game found in the riverbed and along the valleys that sometimes fill with floodwater in the rainy season. Other activities in the area include mountain biking and the Sandstone Ridge Trail.
