Makweti Safari Lodge is situated within the Welgevonden Private Game Reserve which shares a border with Marakele National Park. The region is home of the big five, and offers spectacular scenery of rolling grasslands and rugged mountains which were once the hunting grounds of the late Stone Age San people.
Makweti Safari Lodge can accommodate 10 guests in five stylish stone and thatch luxury suites with en-suite facilities. Facilities include indoor and outdoor showers, Victorian bathtubs, log fires and private decks with plunge pools. All suites offer magnificent views of the bushveld. The main lodge is the central meeting place and area to relax and enjoy a feeling of colonial times. Guests can enjoy cocktails in the Zebra Bar or relax in the library. Candlelit gourmet dinners are enjoyed in the formal dining-room or under the star- studded night sky in the boma alongside a flickering campfire. The cuisine is outstanding and reflects a tasteful fusion of exotic spices or the ancient trade routes.
This region is home to the rhino, lion, leopard, elephant, cape buffalo, sable antelope, zebra and nyala, as well as the 254 recorded species of bird that have been sighted. Dedicated conservationists monitor the areas wildlife to ensure that nature's balance is preserved. Makweti is also home to the world's largest private collection of white rhino, making it an exciting game viewing destination. Game drives are conducted in an open Land Rover, or, for those wanting a more intimate experience of Africa: learn to read the signs of the bush on guided bush walks with the lodges' highly trained and knowledgeable naturalists. Night game drives allow guests to search for the elusive creatures of the African night.
