Amakhala Game Reserve Highlights

The Amakhala Game Reserve was formed in 1999 as a joint conservation venture. The reserve offers a variety of lodges that are owner managed and offer luxurious accommodation.

Amakhala Game Reserve offers a unique safari experience in an area that allows animals to be re-introduced to the area where they once roamed freely. The land was used to ranch sheep and cattle up to the turn of the century. The challenge has been to re-establish the original flora and fauna species to the area and to return the land to nature.

Amakhala Game Reserve Game Viewing and Activites

Amakhala Game Reserve offers a spectacular location as well as breathtaking views. The park is home to a large variety of wildlife including rhino, elephant, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, black wildebeest, zebra, tortoise and well over 16 antelope species.

Experienced and knowledgeable guides will accompany guests on game activities in open safari vehicles. A romantic cruise down the Bushman's River offers magnificent sunsets. The bird watching and sightings of game drinking at the river's edge is phenomenal and can be enjoyed while canoeing down the river. Guests are also given the opportunity of lion sightings in the famous Shamwari Game Reserve, situated next to Amakhala Game Reserve.
