Umkumbe Bush Lodge
Umkumbe Bush Lodge is located in southern stretches of the Big 5 Sabi Sand Game Reserve, a word-renowned reserve known for its leopard sightings.
10 canvas tented suites built on individual raised wooden platforms rest under a canopy of trees just a stone’s throw away from the seasonal Sand River. One of the suites is ideal for honeymooners and has an outdoor shower and plunge pool, and deep set bath. The main lodge is quite the talking point. It’s built on a wooden treehouse deck overlooking the wilderness, with the breakfast area elegantly constructed around a weeping boer-bean tree.
The main area houses a boma, bar, swimming pool and expansive viewing decks, and is furnished in a quirky style complete with local artefacts. Umkumbe Bush Lodge offers a luxury glamping experience in a revered reserve, with all the added extras one would expect from a luxury Kruger bush lodge.

Umkumbe Bush Lodge is synonymous with safari excellence. Located within close proximity to the seasonal Sand River, means abundant wildlife flocks to the banks year-round. During the wet season, elephant herds congregate on the banks of the river, and during the dry season predators prowl the riverbeds.
Guests are treated to two game drives a day, one in the morning and one in the evening. Morning game drives “drop anchor” for coffee stops and evening game drives ensure there’s a sunset stop complete with sundowners and snacks.
Game drives take place in open-topped Land Rovers and they’re led by qualified guides. There are over 500 bird species to spot, 148 mammals and 120 reptiles in the Sabi Sand. Leopard and lions are particularly prevalent in this region. In addition, there are frequent sightings of African wild dogs.
