Desert Dreaming in Namibia : Surrender to Sossuvlei

Namibia cradles a wealth of beauty in its arms, with each region vastly contrasting its neighbour. Namibia is famed for its iconic red sand dunes, but the country is home to so much more than just sand dunes and desolate desert scapes. The sand dunes certainly don’t define this enigmatic country, but are certainly a massive drawcard for visitors from around the world.

Sossusvlei is an extensive clay/salt pan in the Namib-Nakluft National Park, a conservation area spanning 50, 000 km2..  This is the region in the Namib desert where the terracotta colour sand dunes hover over the pans below, and the stark contrast delights many a photographer. The dreamy landscape and hazy horizons of Sossusvlei provide a natural hallucination to the eyes.  Dune 45 is the most popular and photographed dune in the world, but there are many other attractions within the immediate area. A few attractions include the Sesriem Canyon, Hiddenvlei, Big Daddy, and Deadvlei (clay pan with fossilised trees with sand dunes as the backdrop).

With so many things to do in the Sossusvlei, it’s time to surrender to Sossusvlei. Here are our top 3 lodges within this region of great significance.
