World Cup Host City: Durban

Durban will be one of the host cities during the World Cup.

Safaris from Durban

Durban is close to a number of National Parks and Reserves that are ideal for a short safari break from the World Cup mania.

The most convenient safari destinations from Durban are Hluhluwe Umfolozi National Park, Phinda Reserve or Zululand Rhino Reserve.

Other South African National Parks are accessible through scheduled flights (some via Johannesburg) or longer self-drives.

Durban Self-drive

South Africa has a very good road infrastructure which makes self-drive travel very easy.

A good one week self-drive tour starts (or ends) in Durban, taking in the Drakensberg and the Kruger National Park. The trip would ideally end (or start) in Johannesburg.

Recommended Safari Destinations: Durban

Kwazulu Natal:

Hluhluwe Umfolozi National Park, Phina Reserve and Zululand Rhino Reserve

These reserves are approximately 4 hours drive north of Durban.

Greater Kruger National Park:

Timbavati Private Game Reserve

Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve

Thornybush Private Game Reserve

Kruger Park Concessions

Travelling from Durban to The Kruger can be done by scheduled flight or self-drive (with a recommended stopover in the Drakensberg or Zululand on the way).
