World Cup Host
City: Bloemfontein
Bloemfontein will be one of the host cities during
the 2010 World Cup.
Safaris from Bloemfontein
Bloemfontein is not particularly close to any safari
destinations. It is almost equidistant from Madikwe Game Reserve, Pilansberg
Game Reserve and the Kruger National Park. All these destinations can be reached
in 5-7 hours driving.
On the upside, Bloemfontein is within easy flying distance
from most top Southern African safari destinations, including Namibia, Botswana
and Zimbabwe.
For the more adventurous, the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park
(bordering on Botswana and Namibia) are within driving distance (7 hours) of
Bloemfontein. This is best explored with a 4x4.
Bloemfontein Self-drive
World Cup fans based in Bloemfontein will most likely want
to explore beyond the city between games. There is not much to see in
Bloemfontein for the average tourist.
There are a number of fantastic 3-5 day trips that can be
reached from Bloemfontein, including the Drakensberg, The Kingdom of Lesotho or
the above game reserves.
