WINGS OVER OKAVANGO & LINYATI SAFARI
Any Duration

Botswana

This is a flying safari, which departs every day of the year to any of the camps in our portfolio in the Okavango and Linyanti, for any duration of time. Each safari is customized to each guest's requirements. Guests can create their own itinerary to visit their preferred camps. Resident guides at each camp will host their guests throughout their area.

In the Okavango and Linyanti, there are four types of camps - the Okavango camps offering water ctivities like mokoro-ing, boating and walking; those which offer a mixture of both land and water experiences. Then to the North - East, the Linyanti area offers a very different wildlife experience. The camps, which fall into the categories, are:

Okavango / Land only: Chitabe, Chitabe Trails, Mombo and Little Mombo.

Okavango / Water only: Xigera - in years of high water levels.

Okavango/Mixed activities: Duba Plains, Jao, Kwetsani, Vumbura, Little Vumbura and Xigera.

Linyanti Area: DumaTau, Kings Pool, Linyanti Tented Camp and Savuti Camp.

Sample Itinerary

All accommodation, all meals, all activities, all park and concession fees are included in your fare - as are all local drinks. The Safaris can be started or ended in either Maun, Kasane or Victoria Falls. Maun is linked daily from Johannesburg on Air Botswana's services. Prices vary according to where you start and finish your safari.
This is how a sample five day / four night safari would run. However, as these safaris are all customised to an individual's needs, these safaris can last up to 14 days or longer:

Day 1 and 2 : Okavango Delta

On arrival in Maun, you clear customs and then meet up with your representative. You then board a light aircraft for an air transfer to the camp of your choice - and enjoy the twice-daily activities on offer at the camp.

Day 3 and 4 : Okavango Delta or Linyanti

From your camp, you generally enjoy the last morning's game drive and are then flown to your next camp, where you are met by your guide and transferred to camp in open 4x4 Land Rovers.

Day 5 : Safari ends

You are flown back to Maun or Kasane for the end of your safari.

David and I wanted to write to you and thank you and the staff for the most wonderful holiday we have ever had in our life. We have previously been on safari in Kenya and Tanzania. Well, actually we had been on a packaged tour, which called itself a safari. Until we had the "Wilderness Experience" we did not realise what a safari was. The experience in Kenya kindled our passion for wildlife and wildlife conservation but what your staff gave us in Botswana was an opportunity to observe and experience different species without disrupting their routine too much. The passion of the guides, particularly Isaac at Savuti came through very strongly. From Isaac we learned so much, as he shared a little of what he had learnt from his grandfather. We began our holiday at Vumbura, with Rob and Hazel. We were made to feel extremely welcome. The mokoro trek was breathtaking. We also were lucky and met up with Mike Myers as it was he who, when we met him in England, turned our plans to look for tigers in India to getting to Botswana as quickly as we could. It was the dedication and love of the wildlife that came shining through and this changed our minds on the destination. Mike was at Vumbura photographing for your new catalogue and to his credit said that he remembered us from the previous October in England. Chitabe though has something very special. Alex and Tammy were fantastic and gave us the experience of a lifetime, together with the wonderful Newman. I had told Alex that it had always been my dream to walk up as close as I could to elephants and to photograph them. Newman walked us into three massive bulls, we photographed them and came away without them even knowing we had been there. TOTALLY EXHILARATING!!!!! I can now as I type this feel the sun on my back, my nerves on red alert as we crept through the grass and undergrowth, closer and closer, hardly daring to breathe. I have never felt more alive. It's a shame you cannot bottle it, no one would need to take mind-altering substances ever! Alex and Tammy had then arranged for us to sleep out. We had expected a tent and were really excited about that thought. Alex and Newman walked us through the bush, FANTASTIC had man ever walked there before? Who knows maybe only the animals. We came to the hide, lit by lamps in the gather night, campfires burning, one for food, one for the bush shower, sundowners put in our hands as soon as we got there………. Not a tent at all but luxury on stilts. We went up to the top level of the hide to find it laid for a meal, we watched the sun set looking over the Okavango listening to the sounds change from the day sounds to the night sounds as the baboons settled for the night and the bell frogs cleared their throats. The sights, sounds and smells of that night will stay with us both forever. The staff at Chitabe are very special too. They are joyous and this came through all the time we were there. Benjamin was an excellent guide and his being able to smell the leopard and then find it in the middle of the bush with no roads was amazing. We felt that this is the atmosphere, which Tammy and Alex have created. It made Chitabe the highlight of our trip; Tammy and Alex are two very special people. Well then we came to Savuti! We will never forget the enthusiastic and mad Ryan who loved wildlife and chased ants with Doom! When we go to Namibia we will certainly ask if he can be our guide. Savuti was about being able to follow the two cheetah families over the three days the mother with her two sub adult off spring and the three brothers and I was able to take some amazing photos and will be sending some to Isaac as he got us in the right place at the right time. You also gave us the Wild Dogs! I was desperate to see wild dogs. We had not seen then at Chitabe and although we know logically nothing can be guaranteed as the animals move within their territory we had both hoped to see them. We were out very early on our second morning when Isaac took a call from a guide at DumaTau to tell us that they were with wild dogs who were hunting. They were on the far side of the Savuti channel, we had just left camp. Isaac took off, we held on and he got us there just as the adults who had polished off an impala were calling in the young dogs to feed them. We then witnessed predator against predator when a hyena on his way to the remains of the kill came too close top the pack and paid the price, at one point we thought it might be with his life. The hyena managed to get himself into a bush and eventually protected his bottom and used his teeth to fend off the attack of five adult dogs. I personally think it was the stench from the hyena defecating that made the dogs decide to call it a day. I memorable aroma!!!! If I was able, I am now too old; I would go back to university and take a biology degree or something similar to enable me to study and research animals, big cats or wild dog. We both would have stayed for longer if we could. I would really love to be able to help on a research programme. How we would both love to live and work in Botswana. Does commitment and dedication count for a qualification? If it did then we would both be qualified. The whole set up of all the camps and the standard of the accommodation was fantastic. All of the staff from the women who cleaned our rooms to the fabulous cooks were outstanding. It was so nice to go to a country and be able to eat the local food instead of English/American menus. We really enjoyed all of the meals and the special meal at Savuti around the campfire was outstanding. It seems as I write this that there are a lot of superlatives in this letter. I do not apologise for that. Your company have given us something special; it was worth every penny and more! We have booked to return next March, unfortunately we do not have enough leave to come before then, it is committed to take our grandchildren to Disneyland. We have booked to go to DumaTau, Duba Plains and Mombo. Three days, three days and four days. Not that you need it but we would be happy to give a testimonial to what you provided at any time to anyone.
Yours sincerely, P and D B

I am compelled to commend you on the superb level of organization, competence, and customer-orientation based on our recent trip to Botswana. My husband and I went to King's Pool Camp, Kwetsani and Chitabe. We had the trip of a lifetime. The transportation and movement was seamless, as a person always met us and instructed us on our next venture. Throughout, the food was amazing. In particular, Sarah and Roger at King's Pool were fantastic hosts and went above and beyond in making sure we had a great time. Our guide, Brian K., had boundless enthusiasm for the wildlife. Everyone was so knowledgeable that our understanding of the wildlife we traveled so far to see grew exponentially. At Chitabe, the managers, Alex Chaplain, Tammy Goble and Effy were so attentive. One night, Alex Chaplain took us on a night ride himself because he knew we were desperate to see some leopards, not having seen any the whole trip. Because of his efforts, we tracked two cubs and got some beautiful photos. Therefore, he worked all day, but was kind of enough to make a special effort for us. I'm sure it's no small accomplishment to effectively operate tourist lodges in remote areas. Again, I am extremely impressed by what a good job you all do. The trip was worth every penny and I would definitely recommend your organization to others and return ourselves.
Thank you for your attention. JL.

I just wanted to thank you for all your assistance in helping to arrange what turned out to be a fantastic honeymoon experience. Savuti and Mombo were a great combination. We saw EVERYTHING!! Elephant, Hippo, Impala, Hyena, Lion, Lion kill, Cape Buffalo, Cheetah, Leopard (and cubs), Black Mamba snake, Kudu, Red Lechwe, Fish Eagle, Giraffe, Zebra, Wildebeest, Ostrich, Porcupine, Lilac-breasted rollers, and so much more. It was an incredible experience and one we look forward to repeating in the near future.

All in all we had a wonderful time, with, as you'd expect, the Okavango portion the most incredible. Chitabe Trails was a great homecoming for us; we had such great memories from three years ago when we stayed two days there at the end of our Mopane trip. Thanks for recommending Kwetsani. What a terrific, luxurious place. The wildlife drives (we're trying to get away from the term "game" drives) were very fruitful: we saw the first cheetahs in the area this season, we saw lots of lions, as well as the other usual animals, and lots and lots of birds. We did a wonderful mokoro morning as well. And Grant was terrific. We were in luck because one of the guides was away, so Grant was more available than usual, and was able to accompany us on our mokoro outing. He even called in an owl! Thanks for all your help. As before, I'm perfectly willing to talk about our trips, and your excellent assistance.

Our trip to Botswana was fantastic! Everything worked seamlessly, from the pickup at Maun to the drop off from Duma Tau. We loved the whole experience and want to go back. The three camps were wonderful, and we had outstanding guides: Sam at Xigera; O.B. at Duba Plains, and Pray (the best) at DumaTau. They were very good at both animals and birds. (I tallied 237 species -155 in Botswana, the rest in Cape Town.) Your advice to book a private vehicle and guide for a day at DumaTau was excellent! We were very glad we did because we would otherwise have had to go out with fanatical (and I do mean fanatical) big game watchers. Your choice of camps was perfect; each was different, and each offered something special. In short, I can't thank you enough for devising such a wonderful trip for us. We hated to see it end. Our stay in the Okavango Delta made us truly understand the lure of Africa and the reason that people love it so.
All the best, PK - USA
ps: I'd be happy to write a fuller testimonial if you'd like, and to talk to anyone about the trip.

I am trying to think of an appropriate introduction to my report. "Our honeymoon was spectacular" - "I don't know if I am ever going to be able to take P on another holiday without disappointment!!" You did a wonderful job - our trip was fabulous. The flights up to Botswana - Maun - Vumbura went smoothly - The team from Little Vumbura were awaiting our arrival followed by an interesting game drive to camp. The last part of the journey by water is exciting to be welcomed by the whole staff singing on arrival on the dock. A beautiful camp - very well run with great management good food. Our guides / trackers were brilliant. Rex and Kosi found a full variety of game - just before the first evening drive was about to end they spotted the eyes of a Lion - next - we were off driving to three Lions within 10 ft of the Land Rover. We were amazed. Our morning on the mokoro was a highlight to me - but a little low ... in the water for P. Our favorite guide was probably Rex - who also barrelling in daylight after two Cheetahs who brought down a Lechwe - but failed to kill. The next day / evening we were lucky enough to witness the Cheetah successfully kill an Impala.

I spent the last three weeks in Namibia and Botswana. These were my best holidays I ever had..!! I enjoyed your camps very much. The staff is unbelievably friendly, a thing we don't know in Switzerland. Thank you very much for everything..!! I promise you that these were not my last holidays in Namibia and Botswana. I want to see so many more of these beautiful countries, especially the Skeleton coast of which Michael told me how beautiful it is. Sorry for my English, it's not the best so that I can't tell you exactly how impressed I am from these holidays. But even in German I can't do that, it's unbelievable..!!

I don't know where to begin to thank you for organising such a wonderful trip for my mother and me. We had the most fantastic time. The itinerary was so perfect starting with beautiful scenery in the desert and adding a little more animals at each lodge. Each lodge was so different. You organised it so we even had rest day between countries. Then the lodges in Botswana alternated between water camps and dry camps. You were right about Mombo, and we were glad to spend three nights there. What a place with such luxury and variety of plants and animals! We also enjoyed the coziness of the Ongava Tented Camp over the main lodge. You chose them perfectly for us. The trip kept betting better and better. It was such a surprise to learn we would have our own pilot, Marco in Namibia. He was so cute and good to Mom. Very professional! We all bonded. The dunes in the Sossusvlei were stunning. Such beauty there! Mom really enjoyed the hike and felt like she really accomplished something, I was proud of her too. We were able to spend some time with the desert elephants in Damaraland. That was a treat! Did you hear about little Oscar, the one year old? His mother did not even mind us being so near to him as he played. The Ongava Tented Camp was actually better wildlife viewing then Etosha. We spent hours at the water hole there. Kudu, oryx, duiker, steenbok, waterbuck, eland, rhino, lots of birds etc., and so close to us. Then we rested in Windhoek in the comfort of the Hilltop House. Beside beautiful scenery, wonderful nature sounds (I bought a CD of African nature sounds), starlit nights, lots of animals, the people that ran these lodges and guesthouses were so warm, friendly, helpful and really took care of us. I was most impressed with them. The guides also raised the level of knowledge about the animals for me, since they knew my background. I learned so much more and have wonderful stories to tell on my tours at the zoo now. Wish I could spend more time in these countries and get know these people better. Some of the guests were lucky enough to come to these lodges year after year. I cannot think of anything that could improve this vacation. We saw most of the animals that I was looking to find even a caracal cat.
