Vuma Hills, Mikumi National Park
Mikumi National Park Tented Camp
Mikumi
National Park is the closest National Park to Dar es Salaam,
Tanzania. As part of the Selous ecosystem,
it benefits from the highest game density in the entire conservation
area. Vuma Hills is a luxurious permanent tented camp, perched above
the trees stretching over the seemingly endless wilderness south
west of Mikumi National Park.
Accommodation
Accommodation at Vuma consists of sixteen spacious and comfortable tents with
luxurious, colonial interiors. Sleeping under this canvas is a world away from
the discomfort usually associated with camping. Complete with shaded wooden
veranda at the front and en suite bathroom with shower, basin and toilet at the
back, each tent caters for all your needs in this remote wilderness. All water
is solar heated. The
entire tent is mosquito proof. Tents have electricity in the morning and
afternoon until 11pm. The tents are accompanied by a tranquil bar dining area
that overlooks the swimming pool.
Activities & Game
Viewing
Mikumi
is a prime game viewing area. The Mkata plain supports vast herds of plains
game such as wildebeest, impala, zebra and giraffe, hunted by their associated
predators; whilst finding greater kudu, ran and sable antelope in the
surrounding less fertile hills. Although game sightings can never be
guaranteed, there are lots of sightings of the African wild dog hunting the
plains in packs..
The guides at Vuma are some of the best and have extensive
local knowledge. This ensures that guests get the most from Mikumi and its
magnificent surroundings.
All game drives around the park are in open 4 wheel drive
vehicles. They are led by trained experienced English speaking guides.
If a
break from the bush is required, guests can take a dip in the pool that has
outstanding views over the floodplain.
When to Go
The best time to visit is in the dry months between June
and February. Vuma Hills Tented Camp remains open all year round but access to
some areas of the park may be limited during March to June, due to the rains.
Birdlife during this time of year is magnificent and compensates for the
scarcer viewings of game animals.
