Tshwene Lodge Welgevonden Private Game
Reserve Malaria Free, South Africa
Big 5 Safaris South Africa
The Welgevonden Private Game Reserve is a
34 200 ha, privately owned game reserve in the heart of the
Waterberg in the Limpopo province of South Africa. It first started
as a conservation area in 1993 through a private sector initiative
that resulted in the consolidation of numerous private farms.
Flat plateaus characterise most hilltops, and altitude varies
from 1080 m above sea level at the main entrance gate in the north
of the reserve to 1800 m above sea level in the southern section of
the reserve. The combination of the veld types of the sour Waterberg
Mountains and the sweeter lowland bushveld types historically
supported a wide diversity of mammal species.
Situated in the heart of the game rich malaria free Welgevonden
Private Game Reserve, Ekuthuleni and sister lodge Tshwene invite you
to savour true luxury in the heart of Africa.
Camp Description

Tshwene Lodge is surrounded by rocky outcrops and is a secluded
oasis in the rugged valley of the Taaibos River. The Chacma baboon,
after which the lodge is named, calls late at night to alert of
pending danger. Rich in bird life Tshwene offers peace and
tranquility for those seeking to get away from it all. The six
strategically located suites all offer exhilarating views of the
valleys below and the hills beyond.
Unwind in the comfort of a double room with bathroom en-suite, an
indoor and private outdoor shower, a secluded entertainment area
with breathtaking African views. From your private wooden deck
listen to the calls of a passing herd of elephant, or watch the
African sun set the bush ablaze as it sinks over the horizon, in
this malaria free paradise.
Game Viewing
Wegevonden Private Game Reserve boasts prolific birdlife; bound
to keep even the most avid birder in awe. In addition, the reserve
has become a sanctuary for many rare animals; making game viewing an
exciting African experience.
Game drives are conducted on an open 4x4 vehicle, specifically
adapted for the purpose, and you will experience the true magic of
the African bush. The 460km of roads traverse the entire reserve and
ensure minimal contact with other reserve visitors whilst on game
drives.
Following one of the largest game relocation programmes ever
undertaken on private land, Welgevonden once again became home to
the "big five" - lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhino. This
reserve has many species of antelope, zebra, giraffe, baboon, hyena,
wild dog, and other fauna foraging on planes and verdant slopes,
while perennial waters hide crocodile and offers sustenance to a
huge variety of birds. Take a game drive safari at dawn or dusk, and
experience the excitement of the big five and so much more, up
close. Allow the darkness of the African continent to envelop you.
Then sit down at the fire in the traditional boma for a gourmet
dinner. Every care is taken to ensure that your stay is
uninterrupted by the demands of the outside world.
