Tsavo Safaris

In May 1948, a month after its conception Tsavo National Park was divided into East and West for administrative purposes. At 21 812 square km, Tsavo National Park is the largest park in Kenya. Named after the Tsavo River which flows from west to east, the park is considered one of the world's biodiversity strongholds. It is the only Kenyan park that permits night drives. Tsavo is not the Masai Mara where one can drive off road to see it close-up. You will have to work for game sightings and be patient, but the reward is greater. The experienced guides however, are familiar with the game movements and season migration paths and times of Tsavo's wildlife.

How to get there

Air

There are no scheduled flights into the park. Charted light aircraft can land at one of the park's 19 airstrips.

Galdessa

Galdessa is an upmarket eco tented camp located 15km upstream from Lugards Falls in Tsavo East. The word Galdessa comes from the Walangulu word meaning 'baboon'. Located on the southern bank of the Galana River overlooking the Yatta Plateau, the camp's remote location in a very wild part of the park ensues that tourism is kept to a minimum.

Larsens Tented Camp

The luxurious rustic Satao Camp is situated in Tsavo East National Park. The semi-circular layout of Satao Camp provides guests with an excellent view of the central waterhole. Tsavo National Park is one of Kenya's oldest and largest parks. Tsavo East has a beautiful landscape and its proximity to the coast make it a popular safari destination.
