With Africa's highest mountain Mt Kilimanjaro as its spectacular backdrop, Amboseli National Park is the second most popular park in Kenya after the Masai Mara. At 392 sq km it is a small park and lacks the profusion of animal species found in the Masai Mara, but as the landscape provides limited cover you have a very good chance of seeing some of the larger predators. Buffalo, lion, gazelle, cheetah, wildebeest, hyena, jackal, warthog, zebra, Maasai giraffe and baboons are all present. In the permanent swamps of Enkongo Narok and Olokenya, large elephant herds can be seen grazing with Mt Kilimanjaro in the background, probably the definitive Kenyan wildlife shot.
