SIANI SPRINGS INTREPID CAMP
Masai Mara Kenya
Introduction
The camp is situated at the base of the Ngama Hills on the western edge of the Masai Mara National Reserve. It covers lush indigenous forest watered by the largest natural springs in the Mara ecosystem. The camp'
s location in the heart of the Siana group Ranch provides guests with unique opportunities for private bush walks and drives on the game rich plains and along the seasonal streams under the Ngama Hills. Siana Springs Intrepid Camp is managed on strict ecological principles with water heating fuelled by waste charcoal dust, wasteland water recycled through the camp'
s extensive constructed wetland system and biodegradable waste covered for compost.
Camp Description
This 36 tented camp recaptures the spirit of Kenya'
s bygone days. Each tent has en-suite facilities, mosquito net, lighting and traditional Kenyan furniture. Despite the large dining tent, Siana Springs Intrepid Camp enjoy having the Pan African meals outside where they can watch the resident bush bucks, vervant monkeys and genet cats. The swimming pool is shaded by acacia trees.
Game Viewing
The Masai Mara boasts astonishing amount of game. Unfenced, the Mara borders the Ngama Hills in the east and the Olooloo or Siria Escarpment in the west. Gazelle, wildebeest and zebra graze in large numbers and where prey is found so are predators. The famous black-maned Mara lions are possibly the stars of the Mara show. In earlier times the Masai were renowned lion killers and it is said that if lions scent approaching Masai on the breeze they move swiftly in the opposite direction. Cheetah, elephant, kongoni, topi, Thompson'
s gazelle, waterbuck, hyena and the primates can also be found roaming the Masai Mara.
Each year the Mara hosts the world'
s greatest natural spectacle, the Great Migration. From July to October the promise of rain and fresh grass in the Masai Mara brings more than a half a million wildebeest together in one single herd.
