Shompole Camp & Little Shompole

Introduction
Shompole Camp is an eco-lodge located on a private conservancy overlooking sun-baked plains and a riverine forest, great ceased volcanic mountains and lush green wetlands. It is inhabited by the Loodokilani section of the Maasai people.
Little Shompole
Little Shompole consists of two private suites located within a few minute's walk from the main Shompole Lodge. Each suite has a lounge area, cool-pool and sun-deck. Both rooms share a private mess and horizon pool that overlooks the Lake Natron basin and the volcanic hills of Northern Tanzania.
Camp Description
Shompole Camp was constructed using natural materials, smooth white walls and water to create a fresh and unusual bush experience. The design of each building incorporates the beauty of natural forms whilst blending effortless into its rugged surroundings. The lodge consists of 6 stylishly minimalist rooms, 4 doubles and 2 twin rooms, and 2 suites. All rooms are en-suite with private cool-pool and lounge. The rooms have an open-plan design to take advantage of the breeze as it can become very hot in this area.
The main lounge and dining area consists of a high thatch roof overlooking Mount Shompole and the Rift Valley. Guests can take their meals in the privacy of their tent, the main pool or in the bush.
Game Viewing
The private concession of Shompole has a small migration that passes through it. It is also home to many species of animals and bird life. There is an abundance of plains game and nocturnal animals such as aardvark, civet, serval, leopard and striped hyena. Cheetah, lion and elephant are found in the swamp and grassy plains. Other wildlife in the area includes buffalo, giraffe, wildebeest, eland, gazelle and many more.
Much of the topography in the area was shaped by volcanic movement of the Great Rift Valley which adds to the spectacular scenery. The lodge is located near the unique lakes Natron and Magadi. Natron, named the Lake of Fire by the Masaai provides the one of the only flamingo breeding habitats in Africa.

Child Policy
Shompole is not suitable for young children as it is largely open to the environment, and there are many small pools. Children need to be kept under strict parental supervision.
Electricity
Solar energy provides 70% of the electricity. The remaining 30% is supplemented from a generator. 240V.

To/From Nairobi: From Nairobi it is short 30 minute private charter flight. Shared charters are available 3 times a week.
