Shibula Game Lodge and bush spa is a piece of paradise located within Welgevonden Game Reserve. Malaria free and home to the Big Five, Shibula is the ideal destination for a relaxing bush escape, only 2.5 hours from Johannesburg. Shibula is a five star accredited lodge, and is situated close to the best game viewing areas of the 36 000 hectare Welgevonden reserve.

Shibula Lodge hugs the banks of a scenic river and has magnificent views of the overhanging cliffs, where the antics of the resident baboon troop entertain guests.

Camp Description

Accommodation consists of nine elegantly furnished chalets, each with private patio, outside showers, double vanity and mini bar. Two of these chalets are equipped with their own jacuzzi, and the Presidential suite offers a spa bath, private lounge and satellite television. Shibulas Executive suite, too, boasts a Jacuzzi and private lounge.

The Royal suite, as its name implies, is a luxurious two bedroom with en-suite bathrooms, private lounge, splash pool and satellite television.

Additional facilities enjoyed at Shibula Game Lodge are: a sauna and bush spa with full beauty treatments; a gymnasium amid the lush and natural surroundings, a swimming pool and private rock pool, a library, wine cellar, and curio shop displaying Africa at its best.

Gourmet meals are served in the main dining area and under a star-studded sky in the boma. All dietary requirements are catered for.

Game Viewing

This malaria-free reserve, where the big five (Lion, Rhino, Buffalo, Elephant and Leopard) roam freely, is home to an extraordinary diversity of plant and animal life, as well as more than 350 species of birds. Guests have access to the entire 36 000 hectare reserve, and are accompanied by expert rangers who are all too eager to share their knowledge and anecdotes.

Guests are assured of exceptional game viewing, including the excellent Rhino sightings and more antelope that can be seen in one area than in any other game reserve in Southern Africa.

Game rarely seen in other reserves includes Aardvark and Brown Hyena, Eland, Gemsbok, Tsessebe and Bush Pig, all of which can be sighted in Welgevonden Game Reserve. Night game drives give guests an insight into African wildlife by night.
