Samburu National Reserve's rugged and dramatic landscape is situated in Kenya's hot and arid Northern Frontier District. This area is referred to as the Northern Frontier District because of the war in the 1960s and early 1970s with the Somali people. There is a strong influence of Somali, Oromo and Borana have lived as nomads in the area for many centuries. Samburu National Reserve is located north on Nairobi, and was established in 1970.
