Introduction

Samburu Lodge is situated on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River in the Samburu National Reserve. It is the perfect place for leopard, lion, elephant and crocodile viewing.

Camp Description

The lodge comprises of 60 en suite rooms. The choice of accommodation is spread up and down the river banks with river cottages, bandas and single or twin rooms. All rooms are complete with four poster mosquito nets, en suite facilities and private verandas. Each room as an electric socket and 24 hour room service is available. The open sided dining room faces the river and allows guests to enjoy the sights and sounds of the river as they dine. The Crocodile Bar lets you look crocodiles in the eye as you sip your sundowners.

Game Viewing

The arid, hilly Samburu National Reserve is dotted with doum palms, acacia woodland and scrubland is a dramatic and rugged landscape in a remote location of Kenya. Fewer tourists in a wildlife rich, desert like setting amidst a colourful local Samburu tribe. The reserve harbours a number of wildlife species rarely found elsewhere in any numbers, such as Grevy's zebra, the reticulated giraffe and the Beisa Oryx. Samburu's permanent water supply is a magnet for numerous animal species that include the big cats, herbivores and reptiles such as crocodiles. The long-necked gerenuk, elephants, cheetah, buffalos, Grant's gazelle, dikdiks and waterbuck are some of the animals most commonly found searching for succulence among the reserve's withered scrubs. Samburu is one of the few reserves where leopard spotting are frequent. There are over 350 varieties of birds. These include the famous Somali ostrich, kingfisher, humming birds, eagles, vultures and guinea fowl.

How To Get There

SUNSAFARIS can arrange scheduled flights to the Samburu airstrip. To/From Nairobi: Scheduled services to Larsens are available from Nairobi's Wilson Airport. Flying from Nairobi to Samburu's airstrip is 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the amount of stops en route.
