SALA CAMP
Masai Mara
Kenya

Introduction

Sala Camp straddles the Sand River at the southern end of the Masai Mara National Reserve. Located on the convergence of 2 rivers this secluded spot offers tranquillity and tremendous views along the Sand River towards the Serengeti in Tanzania. During the Great Migration the camp is ideally located since many animals move back and forth from the Serengeti in search of lush grasslands in the Mara. The migration is moving through this area from July to October. The camp is located in the heart of the Masai Mara. There are relatively few camps in this part of the park, providing more privacy to guests.

Camp Description

Accommodation is in 7 en-suite tents, one large family/honeymoon tent with a double room and the others are either twin or double. Each tent is spaciously luxurious with en-suite bathrooms and flush toilets and hot water. Food is cooked in the traditional appetizing safari style, using the camp fire and assisted with a gas cooker. Produce is all farm-sourced and free from artificial pesticides.

Game Viewing

The Great Wildebeest Migration passes Sala Camp from approximately July to October, depending on the rains. The camp is well placed in the heart of the Masai Mara and close to the Serengeti. Game is abundant and there are relatively few camps in this part of the Masai Mara. The Masai Mara is one of the most beautiful and popular reserves in Africa. It is part of the traditional Masai lands, and its edges are dotted with manyattas (Masai shepherd's villages). It is an integral part of the Serengeti ecosystem, divided in two by the vagaries of human geography. The wildlife is abundant throughout the year. If you visit the park you will see hundreds of thousands of gnu and zebra. Lion, cheetah, leopard, buffalo, elephant, rhino, giraffe, various antelopes, wildebeest, zebra and warthogs can often be seen on game drives in the area. The birdlife is also excellent around the camp and surrounding environs.
