Lake Kariba Highlights


Lake Kariba is one of Africa's largest dams and one of the largest reservoirs in the world; an enormous man-made inland sea situated on the majestic Zambezi River approximately halfway between the river's source and mouth covering approximately 282km² of the Zambezi Valley. The dam was built to produce hydroelectricity for use by both Zimbabwe and bordering Zambia and the town of Kariba was built to accommodate the construction workers between 1958 and 1963. Today Lake Kariba is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Zimbabwe and is the local holiday get-away for Zimbabweans; it also attracts visitors from all over the world every year. Lake Kariba is famous for their house boats as well as floating chalets. Kariba offers remarkable natural beauty protected by some of the finest nature reserves on the planet it offers an abundance of wildlife. The Zimbabwean side of the lake offers approximately 1 000 kilometers of shoreline and a number of islands. Elephants can often be seen swimming between the islands and the shore, a sight so typical of Lake Kariba. The remarkable Matusadona Game Reserve is situated along the southern shoreline. Gache Gache Lodge


Gache Gache Lodge is renowned for their incredible photographic opportunities, fantastic game viewing and exciting fishing on Lake Kariba. Gache Gache offers a serene setting across Lake Kariba as well as luxury accommodation, delicious meals and superb service.
