Makalolo Plains Description
Makalolo Plains is built on elevated wooden decks providing magnificent views over the Somavundla Pan in front of the camp. Accommodation at Makalolo Plains is luxurious in ten spacious tented rooms with en-suite facilities, private verandas and outdoor showers for a close to nature-feel. The tents are linked to the main area by wooden walkways. The lighting in the rooms is battery-powered to ensure peace and quiet in the camp. The main area at Makalolo Plains includes a lounge, pub, plunge pool and dining area where scrumptious meals are served.
Makalolo Plains Game Viewing
The private concession offers guests an exclusive safari experience at Makalolo Plains. Experienced and knowledgeable guides will accompany guests on game drives and walking safaris to explore this magnificent area. There are numerous shallow pans spread throughout the Park, around which wildlife congregates, offering fantastic and consistent game viewing. During the summer months the plains game migrate onto the plains to give birth to their young, followed by their predators. Wildlife at Makalolo Plains includes elephant, Cape buffalo, sable, roan, southern giraffe, blue wildebeest, impala and sometimes even gemsbok (oryx) can be seen here. Hwange National Park is considered one of the best for predators including lion, leopard, wild dog and cheetah as well as the smaller animals including African wildcat, serval, honey badger, civet and spotted hyena. The bird life at Makalolo Plains is incredible, with more than 400 species present.
