Luangwa River Lodge Game Viewing

The South Luangwa National Park and Luangwa River, with its rich vegetation, provides high concentrations of wildlife. There are huge herds of elephant and buffalo, as well as dominant antelope species such as impala and puku. Other antelope species include common waterbuck, bushbuck, eland, kudu, grysbok, oribi, reedbuck, Lichtenstein's hartebeest, sable and roan. Species such as Thornicroft's giraffe and Cookson's wildebeest occur nowhere else in the world and the area's leopard viewing is fantastic. The main predators in the South Luangwa Park are lion, leopard, spotted hyena and wild dogs. The dry season along the Luangwa River with all game forced to congregate along its banks is an experience not to be missed. Large hippo populations feed the local lion prides, while yellow baboons and Defassa waterbuck provide a contrast to their southern cousins and even the endangered wild dog thrives.
