Kalamu Star Bed Camp is situated in the Luamfwa area in the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia; a unique experience ideal for the devoted safari guest looking for an adventurous and traditional safari experience. Accommodation at Kalamu Star Bed Camp consists of open-air beds protected under mosquito nets situated on elevated timber platforms. The camp's dining area is set up on the river bank with hearty bush meals served around the camp fire. The Kalamu Star beds experience consists of one night Kalamu Star bed platforms and the next night at Chinengwe River Bed Camp. The safari is ideal for guests seeking a physical challenge, however also available to the non-fit guests. The itinerary will depart from Kalamu Lagoon Camp where guests may overnight if they wish to do so prior to starting their Star bed adventure, cross the river into the Wilderness area and walk to Kalamu Star Bed Platforms, arrive in time for brunch, relax for the afternoon and then go for an afternoon bush walk or game drive. The next morning a walk or game drive will take place followed by brunch. That afternoon, walk to Chinengwe River Bed camp for overnight. On your last day guests can choose to either walk or drive back to Kalamu Lagoon where they can overnight again or depart.
The South Luangwa National Park covers approximately 9 050 sq km of the Luangwa Valley floor, which varies from about 500m to 800m above sea level. The highest concentration of wildlife is around the Luangwa River, with its rich vegetation. There are large herds of elephant and buffalo. Wildlife includes huge herds of elephant and buffalo. The Park's dominant antelope species are impala and puku, with other antelope seen including the common waterbuck, bushbuck, eland, kudu, grysbok, oribi, reedbuck, Lichtenstein's hartebeest, sable and roan. Unique species such as Thornicroft's giraffe and Cookson's wildebeest can also be seen. There are also hippo and crocodile, and the main predators are lion, leopard, spotted hyena and wild dogs. The Luamfwa area is known to offer the best walking destination in Africa, guests visiting Kalamu in the South Luangwa National Park have the choice to explore the Luangwa riverine vegetation and adjacent dambos on guided walks and game drives.
