McBrides Camp Highlights


McBrides' Camp is located inside the enormous and spectacular Kafue National Park in Zambia and offers a peaceful, wild and rustic wildlife experience. The area around the camp is very remote with no roads and just about no signs of humans. The wildlife viewing is incredible, the views simply magnificent and the service and hospitality is from a bygone era; with only 7 chalets the safari experience is bound to be private and personal. The emphasis here is on walking and walking safaris accompanied by expert guides.


McBrides Camp Description


McBrides' Camp offers only seven private thatched chalets with en-suite facilities; an open dining room offering magnificent views over the Kafue River catering for a maximum of fifteen guests at a time. The camp also offers a bar as well as a campsite for self drive guests. The campsite offers two ablution blocks, each with a flushing toilet and hot and cold showers and basins. There is a sink for washing up pots and pans, and a half drum braai, for campers to cook on. The setting is peaceful, remote and rustic. McBrides' Camp provides a full board option for guests staying in the chalets. The Camp also provides a library. Solar power is available in the office to charge batteries if required. E-mail is available for necessities.


McBrides Camp Game Viewing


Kafue National Park is 22 400 square kilometers in size and offers exceptional opportunities to view wildlife. Leopard Lodge is situated in a game management area surrounded by the Kafue National Park. To the extreme north of the Kafue lie the Busanga Plains, one of Zambia's most prominent wetland resources and one of the few areas in the world that remain untouched by development and human activity. The Kafue River plays host to a large variety of bird and plant life and the rolling grass plains and forests offer the ideal habitat. Large herds of antelope roam the plains including red lechwe, puku, sable and roan antelopes, waterbuck, tsessebe, hartebeest, as well as oribi and duiker. Large prides of lion, leopards and cheetah are the prime predators. Over 400 species of birds have been recorded throughout the park. The Kafue and Lunga Rivers offer superb fishing opportunities, especially bream, barbel and fresh water pike. The waters of the Kafue River are home to large numbers of hippopotamus and crocodile. The best game viewing is during the dry season from April to October; however the beauty of the park is at its best after the rains during the first half of the year. Many of the parks internal roads are inaccessible between November and April. The emphasis at McBrides' Camp is on walking and walking safaris however other activities include day and night game drives, game viewing by boat, fishing as well as birding trips.
