Ongava Lodge is situated along the southern boundary of Etosha National Park in the privately-owned 30 000 hectare Ongava Game Reserve. Etosha National Park is Namibia's best wildlife destination and one of Africa's largest game parks. Large herds of wildlife congregate around the waterholes and the plains offering breath-taking views. The lodge is situated close to the National Park makes it the ideal base for exploring Etosha and the wildlife within.
Ongava Lodge offers 14 luxury, spacious en-suite chalets made of rock and thatch. The en-suite bathrooms have showers, double basins and outside showers (except for the family unit). The chalets have air-conditioning, overhead fans, tea & coffee making facilities, private wooden viewing decks, hairdryers and electricity in the rooms. The main lodge consists of a lounge, dining room and bar offering views over of the waterhole, a swimming pool, curio shop and reception area. Meals are either served in the main dining area under thatch with a view over the camp's waterhole, or on the dining deck under the stars.
Etosha is Namibia's premier game viewing destination. Large herds of plains game concentrate around the waterholes in the dry season, offering exciting wildlife viewing. Species that can be seen year round include Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Giraffe, Zebra, Wildebeest, Springbok, Oryx, Kudu and the diminutive Damara Dik-Dik. Birdlife is also good with Ostrich and raptors in abundance. Local specials include the Short-Toed Rocktrush, Hartlaub's Francolin, Rockrunner, Ruppell's Parrot, White-tailed Shrike and Chestnut Weaver. Ongava Game Reserve is one of the few private game reserves in Southern Africa where you have a chance of seeing both Black and White Rhino. The reserve also has a good population of Lion, Eland, Hartmann's Mountain Zebra, Black-faced Impala and a number of other antelope species. Game drives in Etosha and Ongava Reserves are offered accompanied by expert guides, walks with armed guides (White Rhino can be tracked on foot.) and full day excursions into Etosha National Park (subject to availability of vehicles).
