Richard's Camp Description

Richard's Camp offers 6 large custom-made safari tents with en-suite facilities, flush toilets and hot showers. The tents are either double or twin and upon request can be set up for a family triple. Guests can also opt for a bath in the camp's old Victorian bathtub set away in the forest surrounded by flickering candles and the sounds of the wild. The Kenyan weather permits that most meals are enjoyed al fresco. For the rare rainy day, meals are served indoors and you can relax by the roaring fireplace.

Richard's Camp Game Viewing and Activities

The Masai Mara in Kenya is the most famous of Africa's reserves. Gazelle, wildebeest and zebra graze in large numbers. Preying on them are the predators, lions, cheetah and leopard. Although the black-maned Mara lion is the star of the show, elephant, buffalo, kongoni, topi, waterbuck and primates are can also be found on in the wide green gold savannahs of the Masai Mara. The reserve is home to the northern end of the annual wildebeest migration and thousands of wildebeest, zebra and antelope sweep in from Tanzania's Serengeti. They are tracked by large predators who pick off the weak, young and stragglers. The migration mass along the Mara River, shoving and pushing just waiting for the first animal to cross so they can complete the final leg of their journey. Crocodiles lie in wait for their best meal of the year. Long after the massive herds of wildebeest and zebra have passed, the plains are still home to an abundant of wildlife. The game viewing here centres on the game rich plains which support a whole host of grazing animals including elephants, giraffe and assorted gazelle. The nearby woodlands also provide shelter for resident lions and other big cats. Not far from the camp is a rhino sanctuary which provides a small group of white rhinos with a secure environment with 24 hour guards. This is a rare opportunity to come face to face with one of these magnificent creatures.
