The Masai Mara hosts the natural phenomenon of the Great Migration which Kenya is famous for each year from July to October. Apart from the Migration the park is popular because of the variety, number and accessibility of wildlife. The reserve is one of the few places in Kenya where you can see large cats and even observe prides of lion hunting, especially around the Musiara swamps. The elusive cheetah and leopard also seem to be a little more willing to show themselves. The park teems with buffalo, zebra and various antelopes. Impala, wildebeest, Grant's and Thomson's gazelle, Kirk's dik-dik and topi roam in groups. The black rhino is far harder to spot due to poachers. The common Masai giraffe mingle with baboons, elephants, warthogs and hyena.
