SABUK LODGE
Laikipia Plateau
Kenya

Introduction

Sabuk is situated on a cliff overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro River in the Northern Frontier District. Sabuk offers amazing views of the Laikipia plains towards Mount Kenya and northwards to the Karissia Hills.

Camp Description

Sabuk's 6 stone thatched cottages are perched high on the riverbanks. They are beautifully furnished open sided cottages, plus an Eagle Cottage which consists of 2 bedrooms, adjoining sitting room and private swimming pool. Both the lodge rooms and cottage have en suite bathrooms and their own fabulous views. The open walls and private verandas face out over the river gorge 150 feet below. Sabuk was built with local materials, twisted wood and stone boulders.
Sabuk Fly Camp is ideal for clients staying 3 or more days.

Game Viewing

Laikipia forms part of the Ewaso ecosystem which is larger than all of Kenya's protected areas except Tsavo. This ecosystem is home to the second largest population of elephant in Kenya. Laikipia is the one district that continues to record increasing wildlife populations. It hosts the highest populations of endangered species in the country. It has 8 rhino sanctuaries, which together hold more than half of Kenya's black rhino population. Laikipia is also a safe haven for endangered Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe and the only viable population of Lelwel hartebeest in Kenya. The Laikipia region is ranked second to the internationally renowned Masai Mara ecosystem. Despite Laikipia's unique biodiversity, it is remarkably not a protected area. Laikipia's wildlife is entirely sustained by private and communal landowners.
