ROYAL LIVINGSTONE
Victoria Falls, Zambia

Introduction

The first impression of the Falls is unmistakable, that of immense power. The scale is massive, the spectacle spellbinding and perpetually changing. Designed to be in harmony with a landscape of ancient nobility, the Royal Livingstone enjoys a view shared by no other hotel in the Victoria Falls region. The Hotel Is positioned within walking distance of the Victoria Falls and the closest town Livingstone is approximately 15kilometres from the hotel.

An exceptional destination for the discerning traveller, every detail has been painstakingly crafted to create the impression of being in another place in time, a time of romance and adventure. Surrounded by dense rainforests, at the Royal Livingstone you'll hear the roar of the Victoria Falls and see the cascades of billowing mist.

Very elegant, yet casual and relaxed, the architecture of this beautiful property can best be described as refined colonial. It draws its inspiration from the grand estate houses still found in Zambia. Large shaded verandas and deep, relaxing spaces cooled by swirling fans and floor to ceiling shutters grace its interiors from the midday sun.

Accommodation

The Royal Livingstone has 173 rooms all situated in an air-conditioned two-storey cluster inspired by the grand estate houses of bygone years. The cluster comprises 10 ensuite rooms, each with a private balcony or terrace offering spectacular views of the great river. The rooms are quite simply splendid with polished floors, and huge beds with scores of cushions to transport you back in time to a gentler era.

Each room is a quiet retreat from the ruggedness of Africa, with large shaded verandas in the colonial style architecture, and open spaces cooled by swirling fans and tall shutters. Welcoming and inviting the rooms are the essence of luxury and supreme comfort with their fine crisp linens and full range of luxurious personal amenities.

The choice of rooms includes standard, suites and presidential suites. Among a host of other luxuries the rooms come equipped with mini-bars, coffee makers, modem outlet, fireplace, and an armoire with cable TV, radio, video, mini-safe and telephone. The convenience of in-room dining is also available.

Dining

Identified and recognised in Conde Nast's as one of the 52 Best New Hotels For 2002, the Royal Livingstone's Lounge with its comfortable armchairs and low ottomans is a place to enjoy an impeccably served high tea or to linger over some fine port or cigar. Breakfast can be taken in the dining room or on the veranda. Here you can leisurely wade your way through a full buffet spread that includes Champagne.

The á la carte restaurant - The Royal Livingstone Dining Room - serves a range of exquisite delicacies from around the world. Traditional high tea is served in the lounge on certain days of the week. Enjoy all your favourite drinks at the thatched lounge and bar, or savour international cuisine from the á la carte restaurant. The dining facilities offer a combination of old-world savoir-faire and contemporary sophistication.

Facilities

The Royal Livingstone offers every facility for an exclusive one-of-a-kind holiday in true Sun International style, including a personalised butler service. Lounge at the edge of the Zambezi is the glistening swimming pool and get a massage under a white canopy as you gaze out over the river.

A host of sports, recreation, entertainment and much more is available. Hair salons, boutiques, casinos and florists are available to cater to your needs. An outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, a golf course along with a game room are on offer for the fitness minded.

A whole variety of exhilarating activities would occupy your time at the Royal Livingstone. Go bird-watching or on a bicycle excursion, ride the Zambezi waters on a jet boat, or opt for a sunset cruise on a catamaran, besides taking a game drive in the surrounding park. Elephant back or river safaris are another highlight, while the more adventurous among you could try white water rafting or bungee jumping, angling and fly fishing, abseiling and gorge swing. All this is yours to enjoy and explore if you find time to tear yourself away from gazing at the thundering Falls!
