POM POM
Okavango Delta, Botswana
Okavango Delta Safari Camp
Situated on Pom Pom Island, Botswana,
the camp is located in a private concession in the heart of the
Okavango Delta and on the head waters of the Xudum
river system. The Moremi Game Reserve is found
on the western boundary and it offers superb Okavango scenery and
a true Okavango wilderness experience. The Okavango is one of the
last remaining, unharmed wilderness areas in Africa, the delta is
fed by the Central Africa floodwaters and covers an area of some
16000 square kilometers. The delta forms a wetland of beautiful
palm-fringed channels, lagoons and islands that support a fauna
and flora of spectacular proportions.
Camp Description
Overlooking a dramatic lagoon, enhanced by the breathtaking Okavango sunsets the camp is quietly nestled under a grove of shady trees.
In true traditional safari style the nine luxury tents have been decorated in what epitomizes Africa, all of which have full en-suite semi open ablution facilities, although roofless the bathrooms are enclosed for privacy, security and importantly offer you a truly unique bush adventure. The main building is made entirely from natural materials constructed and designed from thatch and canvas and comprises of the bar, lounge, dining and pool area, as well as the boma area and gift shop. At night as bushlore anecdotes are recounted a sumptuous meal is prepared and elegant wine is poured. After which you get to unwind over hot coffee, re-live the days events and compare notes and of course plan for the next day.
Game Viewing
Included among the main activities on offer are mokoro trips, walks, game drives and night drives which are also permitted in open 4x4 Land Rovers as the camp falls outside the Moremi Game Reserve and therefore not subject to the more strict Moremi regulations. The most spectacular game viewing is done from the Delta and guests have the opportunity of seeing a variety of big game, plains game, all major predators, as well as an abundance of bird life. All the big predators, the Buffalo, Giraffe, Zebra and the Wildebeest can be seen. Nocturnal animals such as Serval, Civet and Genet may also be seen on night drives. Hippo and Crocodile are found in the deeper lagoons in the area. Pompom is situated in a maze of water passages thus providing for a bird watchers paradise among the countless birds you will find the busy Pied King Fisher, Pels Fishing Owl, African Fish Eagle, Giant Eagle Owl and White Backed Vultures.
