Lodge Description
The lodge consists of five luxurious en-suite, thatch and stone chalets. The main lodge consists of a spacious lounge, a library, dining area and surrounding decks with views of the plains and distant mountains. Fireside, candlelit dinners are enjoyed in the boma, under a canopy of stars, where fine pan African cuisine and excellent South African wines are shared. The lodge has a well stocked library complete with video and CD player facilities. There is a swimming pool and an outside boma for dining. Equipment for small conferences can be arranged on request. Fax and telephone facilities are available.
Game Viewing
Welgevonden offers an abundance of wildlife on its vast plains. Lion, elephant, white rhino, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, eland, kudu and many other species of game occur in the area, with occasional sightings of leopard and cheetah. Welgevonden also has an extensive bird and plant species list. In the Pitse area there are unique populations of blue cranes, secretary birds and Cape Vultures. The lodge is well known for its large presence of white rhino, which often graze very close to the lodge. Guests are often treated to these sightings from the lodges’ swimming pool. Daily game drives and guided bush walks are arranged. Experienced rangers will lead all game activities. Day picnics can be arranged into other areas of the reserve as well as the Marakele National Park where guests can visit the breeding camps of the endangered roan and sable antelope.
