Camp Description
Mhondoro boasts sweeping views of the unspoilt, pristine African bushveld. With an exclusive waterhole sited right in front of the main lodge sundeck, you are assured of intimate sightings of the Welgevonden wildlife as well as awe inspiring sunrises and sunsets.
A maximum of 10 guests are accommodated in 4 secluded luxury chalets one of which is a de-luxe double bedroomed suite with its own spacious sitting room. Each room has its own individual sundeck, sumptuous on-suite bathroom and an outside shower to revitalise body and soul. Each room has an elegant sense of style, with fine attention to detail; ethnic African artwork, and gorgeous local fabrics.
The central dining room, bar, outdoor boma and gym are all situated in or around the main lodge and are easily accessible from the chalets. A nearby chalet houses a well stocked library and entertainment centre that also serves as an exclusive venue for small corporate retreats.
After a hard day of game viewing, bird watching and relaxing, you will be treated to a delicious meal prepared by experienced and dedicated chefs, who expertly blend traditional and ethnic fare to create delicious fusion cuisine.
Game Viewing
If you are in the mood to view the big 5 close-up, qualified rangers will guide you on daily game drives. Game drives are experienced in open vehicles; each equipped with comfortable, elevated seating, and with adequate protection from the African elements. In addition, you will be treated to your first sighting of the reserve's permanent residents: Impala, Warthog, Giraffe, Rhino, Kudu, Eland, Elephant and many others.
Bush walks are on offer for the more energetic guest; providing the opportunity for a more intimate experience of the fauna and flora of Africa. In addition to their obvious expertise, guides add to the experience by sharing animal anecdotes and titbits of information.
Not only will guests enjoy the big five sightings; but views of the little five are also common; including the elephant shrew, leopard tortoise, rhino beetle, buffalo weaver, and ant lion.
Guests are treated to snacks and a welcome drink at the Main Gate boma and are then transferred directly to the Lodge. Sundowners and snacks are served on the evening game drives. The rangers usually choose magnificent spots such as atop a mountain ridge where you can stand and stare at the majestic beauty around you and enjoy a fine South African chardonnay. Hot beverages and snacks will keep you warm on the early morning drives.
