MARA SERENA LODGE
Masai Mara
Kenya

Introduction

Mara Serena Safari Lodge is the only property in the Mara Triangle where guests have uninterrupted views of the plains where the annual Migration takes place. The lodge is an interpretation of a traditional Masai manyatta (village) of domed huts. Situated on a hill, the lodge overlooks 1 800 sq km of rolling plain, woodlands and rivers that make up the world' s richest wildlife sanctuary.

Camp Description

The lodge has a total of 74 guest rooms, 72 twin beds and 2 double beds. The main dining resembles and enlarged Masai manyatta (village). Located in the main building is the lounge and bar which serves both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. There is a large outdoor pool with lounge chairs, tables and umbrellas.

Game Viewing

The Masai Mara boasts astonishing amount of game. Unfenced, the Mara borders the Ngama Hills in the east and the Olooloo or Siria Escarpment in the west. Gazelle, wildebeest and zebra graze in large numbers and where prey is found so are predators. The famous black-mane Mara lions are possibly the stars of the Mara show. In earlier times the Masai were renowned lion killers and it is said that if lions scent approaching Masai on the breeze they move swiftly in the opposite direction. Cheetah, elephant, kongoni, topi, Thompson' s gazelle, waterbuck, hyena and the primates can also be found roaming the Masai Mara. The endless plains of east Africa is the setting for the world' s greatest wildlife spectacle, the annual Great Migration. From the vast Serengeti plains to the rolling plains of the Masai Mara, wildebeest, zebra and gazelle relentlessly migrate in a clockwise fashion over 1 800 miles each year in search of rain ripened grass. There is no real beginning or end to the wildebeest' s journey.
