MARA PORINI CAMP
Masai Mara
Kenya

Introduction

The camp is located less than 18kms from the Masai Mara park boundary on the Masai owned Ol Kinyei Wildlife Conservancy. Mara Porini Camps is involved in running the conservancy through a partnership with the local community, who receives funds from the profits. Porini means 'in the wilds' and the camp keeps true to its meaning - it is an open camp meaning it is not uncommon for nightly visits from grazing buffalo and elephants. Consequently Masai guides accompany guests to the tents, ensuring safety.

Camp Description

Mara Porini Camp has 6 guest tents sited in the shade of the yellow barked acacia trees along the banks of the Laetoli, a permanent spring within the Ol Kinyei. The camp accommodates a maximum of 12 guests, thereby ensuring a private exclusive wilderness experience for the discerning traveller. The spacious tents have an en suite bathroom and flush toilet. The camp Chef prepares delicious home baked bread, fresh salads and high quality meals.

Game Viewing

The Masai Mara is Kenya' s premier game reserve. It has some of the highest concentrations of animals in Africa. It is most famous for the migration of wildebeest and zebra. From July to October, the promise of rain and fresh grass on in the Mara plains attracts more than 1.3 million wildebeest together in a single massive herd. At the Mara River they mass together on the banks before plunging forward through the raging waters, fighting against the currents and waiting crocodiles. You are almost guaranteed to see the big 5 in the Mara. Lions abound throughout the park as do leopards, cheetah, hyenas, giraffe, impala, wildebeest, topi, baboons, warthogs, buffalo, zebra, elephants, hippos and crocodiles. Because the reserve has no fences you can actually see as much wildlife within its boundaries as outside in the areas inhabited by the Masai tribes. Some of these areas are also not so crowded.
