MADIKWE
BUSH HOUSE
Madikwe Game Reserve
South Africa
Introduction
The Madikwe Bush House is a colonial style lodge, enhanced with
a strong African feel. Situated inside the Madikwe Game Reserve,
it offers guests a true "Safari" experience with all the
comforts and luxuries one would expect from a top class private
game lodge. The Madikwe Game Reserve is located in the North West
Province of South Africa. It is managed by the North West Parks
Board, a conservation organisation that is world renowned for its
pioneering approach to people-based conservation and tourism. Madikwe
Game Reserve is the fourth largest game reserve in South Africa
at well over 79 000 hectares, and has the largest elephant population
outside of the Kruger National Park. It is Big Five country at its
best and it is MALARIA FREE!
Camp Description
The Bush House accommodates a maximum of 12 adults in six ensuite
bedrooms. Each room has a mosquito net canopy over the large and
very comfortable bed, 220 volt electricity and air-conditioning.
Children under the age of about 10 are able to share with parents
on camp stretchers. Evening meals are held in the outdoor boma.
The Chef produces a superb dinner, served under the African night-sky.
Enjoy this very special time, sitting around the campfire, reviewing
the sightings of the day, while a cacophony of calls from the wild
resound in the bush. The rock swimming pool has a wonderful view
of the reserve and overlooks the waterhole. Guests to date have
enjoyed sightings of lion, rhino, wild dog, buffalo and tons of
elephant, literally a couple of meters distance from their deck
chairs. Cool off during the day, or enjoy a glass of wine at the
pool at night as the floodlight illuminates the surrounding bush.
Game Viewing
The highlight of your stay is going out on game-drives in open
4x4's in search of the Big Five. The rangers are highly qualified
professionals, who enjoy sharing their knowledge of the bush, birds
and wildlife with guests. At sunset, a table is laid beside the
vehicle, and guests can alight and enjoy a much deserved "sundowner"
in the bush. There is an electric game fence encompassing about
10 hectares around the lodge. They have left the bush in it's natural
state and created a nature trail for guests to walk in the bush
on their own, in complete safety. With over 400 bird species in
Madikwe Game Reserve, this is the ideal birding opportunity. For
the more adventurous, the rangers are qualified to take guests on
Bush Walks in the reserve, observing the wildlife and even the Big
Five on foot.
Note: Game drives are done in open Land Rovers, so you can feel
close to Nature.
