Game Viewing
Madikwe Game Reserve is home to an incredible array of wildlife. All predator species are represented and also black and white rhino, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and a great number of antelopes. More than 350 bird species have been registered.
The re-stocking of Madikwe with animals indigenous to the area began in mid-1991. Since then, more than 8,000 animals of 28 species have been introduced in the largest game translocation exercise in the world at that time.
Species introduced to date include the Big Five, lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino plus cheetah, wild dog, spotted hyena, giraffe, zebra and many species of antelope and other herbivores. Early morning and late afternoon game drives, as well as guided bush walks are offered at Madikwe River Lodge. Guests not only get close to Big Game but also learn to identify birds and trees, taste edible fruit, follow in the footsteps of animals great and small and learn about local bush lore. Become one with the bush as you track silently after the spoor of wildlife during game drives.
