Game Viewing
The focus of Lufupa is the Lufupa and Kafue Rivers and the thick riverine vegetation that fringes these water courses. Further away are diverse habitats such as floodplains, miombo woodland and open grassy areas called dambos. There are resident prides of lion and leopards are often seen. Wild dogs are occasionally sighted. There are also a wide variety of plains game, ranging from puku, buffalo, Lichtenstein's hartebeest, sable, kudu, impala and oribi. Defassa waterbuck are a special sighting and elephants are also often seen. The birdlife is certainly an attraction for many people visiting the Kafue, from Crowned Crane on the grasslands to waterbirds such as African Finfoot on the rivers.
Activities include day and night nature game drives exploring prime game viewing areas adjoining the Lufupa Channel. Boat trips also expose the large hippo population of the area complemented by a constant display of colourful waterbirds, reptiles (Nile crocodile, water monitor, terrapins) and lush riverine vegetation. Guided bush walks are also on offer.
