LONDOLOZI PIONEER CAMP
Kruger Park, South Africa
Kruger Safaris
Londolozi lies within the 6 million acre Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Park- a conservation area which is rapidly growing and is ultimately expected to exceed 10 million acres in size.
Londolozi a Zulu word meaning the protector of all living things has at its core a sense of universal responsibility, not just to the animals and the land that sustains them but also to the people who call South Africa home, and to those who drawn here from far off lands.
Pioneer Camp is steeped in history. It is at the heart of the reserve where, eighty years ago the Varty ancestors arrived after three days of hard travel by rail, wagon, and foot. In the falling light they pitched their tents on the banks of the Sand River. They awoke to a wild and silent wilderness that still defines the experience at Pioneer Camp. The tents are now a part of the family mythology, replaced by expansive suites hidden deep in a 500- year-old riverine forest of Water Matumis and Ebony trees.
Cresting a gentle rise with elevated views of the Sand River, massive granite extrusions stand sentinel over this elegant bushveld camp.
