Kulefu Tented Camp Lower Zambezi Zambia
Introduction
Set deep in the game rich Lower Zambezi National Park, there is an intimate and secluded safari camp comfortably set in the deep shade of tall trees. Wonderfully peaceful, eco-friendly and well appointed, the camp overlooks one of the permanent channels of the celebrated Zambezi River.
After a thousand-mile journey, it is here that the sunlit river spreads out to form broad white sandbanks populated by crocodile, hippopotamus and the sacred ibis. There is a bountiful eco-system for other resident wildlife, which is created by the ancient ox-box lakes.
With the paraffin lamps glowing among the trees after sunset, the chink of glass and fine china as dinner is served and the sunsets this is all often accompanied by the nocturnal voices of the leopard and the very rare fishing owl.
Camp Description
The camp is located on the banks of the Zambezi River, 1km away from its old location. Kulefu Tented Camp is on the banks of a permanent channel that is sheltered in a lovely area.
A total refurbishment has been given creating an understated sophisticated and luxurious feel to keep with the rest of the Star of Africa circuit. New furniture has been placed in the lounge and riverside lounge which is a wonderful new addition, comfortably nestled underneath the enormous acacia trees, a swimming pool, evening fire pit area and 8 new tent rooms which are double the size of the old tents and all with baths perfectly positioned to take full advantage of the views of the tranquil river. As you cool off in the plunge pool or relax by the river side lounge ones focus is never distracted from the Zambezi and its wildlife.
A generator runs the camps lights and hot water systems and video and camera batteries can be charged in the rooms. The pathways and tent entrances are lit up by traditional paraffin lanterns. A laundry service is available on request.
Meal times can be dependent on safari activities but they are within the usual times. A wide range of cuisine is served blending local ingredients with international flavors to give the true African feel to all your experiences on your safari. Meals are served outdoors as much as possible with breakfasts in the bush, picnic lunches and sumptuous dinners set under thestars on the banks of the Zambezi River.
Children are catered for from 12 years and up and this is due to the remoteness of the camp.
Game Viewing
The game viewing at Kulefu Tented Camp is very concentrated in the corridor between the steep escarpment and the river, which offers breath taking views and brilliant viewing opportunities. For many years the Lower National Park was a forgotten wilderness as it ran its course along the northern banks of the Zambezi River opposite the Mana Pools National Park. Among the abundant and varied wildlife is the Big Four. The populations of animals include herds of buffalo, lion, elephant, waterbuck, leopard, hyena, zebra and various antelope and just over 350 bird species are all seen on the grassy plains.
There are fantastic opportunities of exploring Kulefus wonderful array of wildlife by boat, canoe, safari vehicle or on foot. The day and night drives are hosted by highly trained professional guides and are taken in open 4x4 vehicles.
