Situated on the 21,000 hectare Kulala Wilderness Reserve, bordering
the Namib Naukluft Park, Kulala Desert Lodge lies in the heart of
the Namib. It offers magnificent views of the famous red dunes of
Sossusvlei as well as spectacular mountain scenery and vast open
plains.
Camp Description
Kulala has twelve thatched and canvas chalets or Kulalas (Swahili
for "resting place") with en suite bathrooms and showers.
They are set on wooden platforms to provide maximum airflow. Mattresses
can be moved to the rooftop to sleep under the stars on a private
stargazing platform on top of the room; a popular option with outdoor
enthusiasts on sultry summer nights. The main lodge has a lounge,
bar, dining area and plunge pool. The verandah overlooks a waterhole
and provides the perfect location to view and photograph the desert
sunset.
Game Viewing
Early morning guided game drives to the spectacular dunes are via
a private gate on the Tsauchab River. Game drives and walks are
also offered on the private reserve with incredible scenery, desert
game and smaller desert~adapted fauna and flora. Spotlit night~drives
are a highlight. Early morning ballooning, is another option offered,
weather permitting. The 60 minute balloon safari offers a truly
unique experience of soaring silently above the magnificent desert
sand dunes and and ending off with a champagne breakfast served
at the landing site.

Tent details:
o Each "kulala" is especially adapted to the unique desert
conditions, built on a platform to ensure maximum airflow, thatch
roof provide a cool respite from the sun and ceiling fans ensure
a breeze at all times.
o All rooms are en-suite with shower, flush toilet and hand basin.
o Each room has a private verandah with view of the majestic dunes
without seeing the neighbours
o A private rooftop area on top of the bathroom gives guests the
opportunity of spending a night under the magnificient night sky,
luxury bedrolls are available any time.
Camp description
o The main lodge comprising the reception, lounge, pub, dining room,
and verandah has been built entirely of clay bricks in an African
desert style
o Thatch roof.
o There is a swimming ( plunge) pool with shadow area if guests
want to relax.
Game viewing
A water hole in front of the main building give the opportunity
to see Oryx, Springbok, Bat Eared Fox and Jackals. Some Brown Hyenas
can be heard at night.

o Visits to Bushman painting sites

o Balloon safaris (additional cost, even if guests are on Fully
Inclusive rate, closed 15 January to 15 February)
o Scenic sundowner tours is one of the best scenic safaris in the
Namib. This exclusive tour is ended with a Champagne sundowner.
Suggested Daily Activity Schedule
All times are a guide only. Times can and do change depending on
local conditions.

Full buffet brunch is served on the dunes
Return to Lodge

Laundry policy
No laundry facilities as there is not enough surplus water for washing
clothes.

Payment can be affected by: Travellers Cheques, Cash or Visa/Mastercard.
If guests feel that they want to tip, our recommended tipping schedule
is as follows:
Driver/Guides - US$5.00 per person per day
General Camp Staff - US$3.00 per person per day
Specialist Guides (if applicable) - US$10.00 per person per day
