Klein's Camp, Serengeti

Introduction

Kleins Camp in Northern Tanzania is perched on the edge of the Kuka Hills, which straddle the northeastern border of the Serengeti National Park.  Set in a private 10 000-hectare/24 500-acre sanctuary overlooking wooded hillsides, rolling grasslands, marshes and forested riverbanks, the Camps spectacular location is in a vital corridor linking the Serengeti and Maasai Mara in Kenya.

Camp Description

Kleins Camp is unique in Tanzania in that night game-drives and bush walks are offered and driving off-road in open game-viewing vehicles is permitted.

Ten intimate cottages of local stone and thatch with rich wooden floors and classic interiors.  The bathrooms are en suite. From the private veranda a diversity of resident wildlife may be viewed in the valley below.

The camp has a large beautifully furnished open-sided bar/sitting area with a central fireplace, just a short walk from the dining room, both with sweeping views of the valley and surrounding hills. There is a pool and deck tucked into the hillside and a shop stocks locally made Maasai crafts.

Game Viewing

Elephant are more common here than elsewhere in the Serengeti and, depending on the rains, the migration passes through the area each year in July/August and returns October/November.

Twice-daily game viewing drives in open safari vehicles with Maasai trackers.  Night drives on the camps private concession are a highlight.  Guided walks up and along the quartzite hills end with sundowners served on the crest of a hill.   Bush breakfasts at spectacular locations are a speciality and private bush dinners can be arranged.

Maasai trackers accompany all game-drives and on bush walks offer an insight into the medicinal use of plants.

Activities

Traditional Community visits can be arranged to view the daily activities and culture of the local communities (optional extra).
