Kanyemba Island Lodge

Introduction

Entirely enclosed by nature and situated on the banks of the legendary Zambezi River, with just a few small villages populated by the Goba tribe nearby, Kanyemba Lodge is a unique relaxed spot designed to accommodate up to fifteen people at a time. While keeping within the local tradition and not wanting to disturb the natural surroundings, this small lodge was planned with highly innovative techniques, using only natural materials and paying attention to every tiny detail.

Camp Description

The middle building is enhanced with a brilliant patio including lodges, the dining room, the bar, the lounge and the library. The Library contains interesting books about nature and local traditions. In the heat of the day you can choose to recline in the pool, swimming or just sip a cocktail while watching the lazy hippos in the river. A daily laundry service is available on request.

Completely built of natural and local products they allow the chalets to blending perfectly with the surroundings, while still allowing for comfort in the warmer months. Each chalet has its own verandah giving the guests their own private view of the mighty Zambezi River where early morning teas and espresso coffees can be enjoyed. The chalets are beautifully decorated with local art and the stunning en-suite bathrooms have state of the art facilities and the bright mirror lighting. Chalets have their own walk in closet with lots of shelving, hanging and storage room. All chalets have 220V electricity, mosquito nets and ceiling fans.

The meals are a combination of Italian Cuisine and the freshest local ingredients. A mouth watering buffet breakfast is served on the patio overlooking the breath taking African sunrise. Lunch is served on the terrace as well we the three course dinner that can be arranged seated around the camp fire.

Game Viewing

On offer at the lodge are canoe and walking safaris, photographic safaris, and river cruises all expertly guided where you can enjoy the theatrical Zambezi sunset. A further activity on offer is angling for the legendary tiger fish.

The canoeing safari requires an early start and is said to be among the most rewarding activity on the river. Guests are ferried to the top of the island and after a safety talk, weave their way down the 10km to the meeting point for pickup. You get to take in many magical moments as the animals wake up and the sunrises. You get to see the Zambian fauna and flora from a whole new platform.

Walking Safaris are an experience of its own, guided by highly qualified and trained experts it allows participants to experience the African bush on its terms. You get to discover and learn the more intricate details of the wild. All your senses are enhanced and your guide takes you to learn about the animal trails, tracks and plants as well as their medicinal purposes.

For photographic safaris you will have expert guides at your disposal for day and night time excursions where you will get to observe animals drinking, feeding and hunting. The Zambian sunsets are the perfect photographic settings as well as the cool and fresh air which is enhanced by the early morning mist.
