Kafunta River Lodge is set in riverside forest on the banks of the Luangwa River, overlooking the South Luangwa National Park. Kafunta's accommodation is of the highest standard in the valley.

Lodge Description

This classical Safari Lodge offers all the creature comforts in a wildlife environment, the high standard of personalized service provides attention to the finest of details. The eight private chalets are built on raised wood platforms under a thatched roof, the mahogany floors and walls give a natural beauty to the luxurious interiors.

Adjacent to the Bar is the pool and is the only Natural hot spring tub in the Luangwa valley. The unique hot spring tub owes its existence to the fact that Kafunta was built on top of a natural hot spring offering a constant temperature of 38 degrees which coincidentally offers stunning views over the flood plains and the Luangwa river.

Game Viewing

Night drives are offered, giving you the unique opportunity to see the great variety of nocturnal animals and the chance to see Lions and Leopards in their time of ease. With a bit of luck you might experience the big cats hunting. The safari starts in the late afternoon hours and we stop for a drinks and snacks while watching the magnificent African sunset before we continue the safari after dark. The night drives are accompanied by qualified Safari guides and an experienced spotter, who will find a great variety of game with the powerful spotlight.

Optionally, we offer all day or half day drives into different areas of the National Park, we take a table and chairs for a picnic lunch in the bush. This gives you the opportunity to discover a vast area of the National Park.

The walking Safaris are a great opportunity to be at one with nature. Our qualified, experienced Safari guides and armed National Park rangers will escort you safely into the true wild African Bush. The Luangwa Valley is one of the few places in Africa where it is possible to walk amongst wildlife in true wilderness. During the walking safaris our guides will have the chance to explain the little details of the bush, spoor, vegetation and the ecology an unmatched wildlife experience
