Joy's Camp
Shaba National Reserve
Kenya

Introduction

Joy's Camp is an elegant oasis built on the site of where the author and naturalist, Joy Adamson had her tented home in the Shaba National Reserve. The camp is also home to Penny, the Leopard, who is the heroine of Joy's last book. Joy's Camp overlooks a large natural spring where elephant and lion jostle for watering rights with herds of buffalo, Beisa Oryx, reticulated giraffe and Grevy's zebra.

Camp Description

There are 10 chic raised canvas bedrooms, 7 doubles and 3 twin rooms, all with breathtaking views of the surrounding hills. Each tent is decorated with Boran/Somali cloth, handmade glass and vibrant fabrics of the local nomadic tribes, creating a sophisticated, chic and stylish camp. All tents are en suite and have their own private veranda.

Game Viewing

Shaba National Reserve is a semi desert made famous for its association with the world famous conservationists Joy and George Adamson and the film 'Born Free'.
