Introduction
Gunn's Camp is a luxury, vintage safari camp that overlooks the legendary Chiefs Island and borders the Moremi Game Reserve. A fine balance has been achieved at Gunns Camp through the unique surroundings of leafy palms and African Ebony without isolating guests from the sights and sounds of the wilderness. Your African adventure starts with a twenty minute light aircraft transfer from Maun airport, which takes you over the south-western Delta, taking in the splendor of the winding papyrus fringed channels that make up one of the worlds most incredible wet land wonders. You will be able to see some of Africas most celebrated animals from a birds eye view- 500ft above the ground.
Camp Description
On the Ntswi Island, deep in the Delta is where you will land and be met by your hosts and shown to your choice of tented accommodation. The accommodation at the Gunns camp is unique in that it offers 3 various options. The first being Gunns Main Camp which consists of 8 deluxe meru tents with en-suite bathrooms as well as your own private viewing deck and beautiful teak furniture and also boasts a beautiful honeymoon suite which is built into an ancient African Ebony tree and offers unsurpassable views of the winding waterways. The island is connected to the main camp by a small causeway crossing the wetlands and magically lit by fairylike lanterns. Guests have access to the campfire boma, the swimming pool, the lounge, dining room and the elevated bar.
Gunns Bush camp is the other option and is divided into 2 further camps. This bush camp occupies the opposite end of the extensive delta concession offering a wonderful sense of freedom in the wilderness. The first of these is the Antelope Accommodation and is 8 mini-meru tents with full beds and shared bathroom facilities and each tent boasts its own private wooden deck and is set on the bank of the Boro River. It is the middle ground between luxury accommodation and camping. The alternative option, the Buffalo Accommodation is for a more traditional bush experience and comprises of 15 pre-erected 2-man domed tents with bedrolls and shared bathroom facilities. The notorious Bush Camp Cave bar and a sparkling pool are surrounded by Ebony palm trees.
Game Viewing
The day starts with a light breakfast or fully cooked breakfast served to fit in with your plans for the day. Your guide takes you on a planned morning activity, either a bush walk to see animals or a tour in a mokoro. On return to the camp, lunch is served and then there is time for a siesta. Afternoon tea is served, after which you can enjoy an afternoon activity such as a game drive in one of the specially designed bush viewing vehicles until sunset, where you return to camp as per the regulations of Moremi Game Reserve. There is also an option to take a full day trip with picnic lunch if planned with the Camp Managers. During the summer months- October to May, it is a good idea to bring light weight, cool clothing. Wide brimmed hats, high factor sunscreen and mosquito repellent should not be forgotten. During the rainy months- November to February you will need a jacket to keep you dry. In the winter months- June to September it can be very cool in the evenings so bring along something warm as well.
